The sequel to James Cameron’s original Terminator movie, this 1991 film has the T-800 Model 101 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) sent to protect a young woman named Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) from a more advanced, less human-like cyborg called the T-1000 (Robert Patrick). In 2004, after winning four Oscars for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing and two awards for Best Visual Effects for his work on The Incredibles and Titanic respectively as well as being nominated four times with 1984's rendering of The Terminator, James Cameron was given money by John Davis to make what would become known as Avatar. In return he had to give back some of his copyright in that movie. In the end Cameron returned the rights to the Terminator universe to Davis, who used them as a starting point for his own franchise. In October 2009, Davis confirmed a sequel to "Terminator Salvation" would be made, but was unable to come up with a satisfactory plot. He stated that he had not intended on making another sequel and had to be convinced by other executives at Warner Bros. Pictures who were interested in producing another sequel or spin-off based around Arnold Schwarzengger's T-800 character. The film's title was changed from "Terminator: Salvation" to "Terminator: Genesis", and the film is currently set for release on July 13, 2011. Davis has said that a movie that helps set up a new trilogy is already written and ready to go, but he does not know which of the two stories he will use.
While arriving at a party in Los Angeles, Sarah Connor's son John experiences a nightmare in which he sees himself as an old man. In an apocalyptic world overrun by Skynet-produced machines from the future, John hides in an old barn from a T-800 Terminator sent to terminate him. The T-800 scans John's mind and learns of his intentions to travel back in time and stop Skynet from being created. It warns that if he travels back too far or arrives before it is programmed to do so it will create a different future. John's mother, Sarah, receives a message alerting her to the arrival of an unknown visitor at the farm. She rushes outside to discover a battered T-800 laying on top of her car. Injured and out of ammunition, she tells the machine that it must be destroyed since it poses a threat to her son. The Terminator locates John in the barn and warns him about his future. Angered by the threat posed by the timeline-altering T-800, John begins tracking it down despite warnings from Sarah that he cannot do so before Skynet is created. John arrives at a secret military base where he meets his future self, who is being held prisoner there. The older John explains that he has been tasked to protect the timelines and warns that the machines cannot be stopped and that humanity must be destroyed or they will become slaves to their own technology. He tells his younger self to destroy the machines before they arrive, as Skynet's army will not stop. John travels back through time and places a bomb inside a T-1000, whose upcoming mission is to kill the younger John. He returns home but is found by Kyle Reese (presumed dead in the original film), Sarah's husband, who informs him of an imminent T-800 attack on Sarah before he can warn her of it. The Terminator tracks down Kyle Reese in Hollywood where he takes him prisoner.
